In case it was difficult to discern, this really is a blog that is sometimes about knitting. I offer the following as proof:
I have a baby to knit for! *Wait-she didn't look pregnant when showing off her Butterfly sweater!* Well, I don't actually have a baby personally, but my very dear friend has just become a grandmother....... WOW! That is a weird thing to say. If you met her you wouldn't think grandmother, that is for sure. Cynthea's daughter is twenty-four and a new mom to Ingrid Alice. My daughter is almost twenty...... Alrighty then! This is a path that is better left untravelled for now. Time to change the subject back to knitting.
Is this bonnet suwheet or suwhat! I had so much fun, I think I could knit one of these every day. The fun is in the details. Just look at that little ruffle on the top! Perfect to frame a little baby face. Doesn't it just look like I had to gather it all up and attach it? It was so much easier than that. According to the directions (which were flawed, oh by the way) I cast on a bunch of stitches and knit in garter stitch then I decreased the stitches by half and worked in stockinette stitch for some rows, worked an eylet turning row (oh,eyelet turning row, how I love your perfect ridges and tidy trim! My heart sings when I work thee, and the sight of you brings tears of joy) worked more stockinette stitch, then picked up stitches along the decrease row and knit them together with the stitches on my needle. It is magic! No matter how many times I do this knitting thing, I am still floored by the beauty of it all. Just take a look at the pretty pinwheel on the back of the bonnet and you will see what I mean. It just gives me the warm fuzzies. You too?
Although finishing this sweater has a negative effect on destashing (I didn't count this yarn as part of my stash and I have a skein leftover, which gets added to the stash) there has been some progress on that front. Stash Busting is alive and working, but there is still stash to be had, so go look at the bargains in my Stash Busters mini-shop. Browse early, shop often. The deals are great! I have busted forty-eight balls, but found sixteen to add in. Net busting? Thirty-two balls!
Any knitting or blogging done by me in the next couple of days will be done from a cozy inn somewhere in Vermont. No kids, just Pete, me, cross-country skis, snow shoes, a fireplace, jacuzzi, and plenty of snow I hope. Maybe we'll get snowed in and have to stay......
