I'm faced with the question: What do you save? On your computer, what do you save? Hmmm? My laptop is acting like a piece of crap. It started months ago as I was loading audiobooks on cd to my iTunes. Without warning of any kind (except maybe the fan went into hyper-blow) it shut down. At first I could load a few, then it would crap out, but eventually it wouldn't make it through the first attempted cd loading before it would cease to show any signs of life. I discovered though, that I could load the cds to Windows Media Player and then move them to iTunes and all was well. I had books on my iPod to listen to at work and all was good. Too good to last, of course. Now the piece of sh*t computer aborts all action on any attempt to load a cd, when my anti-virus program is running, when I tried to defragment the machine (alright, alright! I didn't do it, my husband did. I don't even know what that means or how to do it, what I do know is that it didn't help) or even Tuesday when I was refreshing the web page with the live updates of the Ladies' short program results. Just refreshing the page. Screen.Goes.Blank. Piece.Of.Crap. (I hope my computer can't
hear read this-I'd better save this quick!) For any of you that are going to tell me that it is overheating, I don't think that is it. My most recent attempt at a cd load was attempted first thing after turning the machine on and it crapped out within a few minutes. Black.Screen.
Anyway, it looks like a trip to the computer fixer guy is in order. Pete tells me to back up my files and save whatever I want to keep as they may replace something or other and I could lose everything. Back up my files? Save things? Lose everything?! I don't know how to do any of that stuff. I turn it on, turn it off, download photos, load cds and read blogs. And email, I can email. That is pretty much it. I have every picture I have ever taken on this thing. Still. I have never, ever backed it up. So, what do you save? You know, like the seventy-six photos you took of that pair of socks, one of which you edited and showed off on your blog, do you save those? Do you save what you have put on your blog? Are the photos organized in neat files or are they just all in there, a jumble of pics that would take hours to go through and delete what you don't need? I don't really see the need to save anything at all. If it is already uploaded to my blog, why should I save it? Should I back up my blog files? I think that Typepad does that for me, but there are no guarantees in this life. I could lose all of the knitting journaling that I have done up to now. So, what do you save? I'm thinking of saving very little. Just free up the space. Otherwise I would have to make new files and organize it all and, well, I'd really rather be knitting. Now, what should I do about all of those emails........?
Olympic Knitting? What Olympic knitting? Does this count?
I know it doesn't look like much now, just wait until I add the hot water! My first felting attempt. Full report to come......
