My Weekend List of Goals and Aspirations

  1. Take a nice long, lovely fall drive into the Catskills, listening to audiobooks and drinking tea.
  2. Hang out in a hotel with fiber enthusiasts as committed (or committable) as I am.
  3. Hug a lot of them.
  4. Hug Margene, in person, for the first time.
  5. Try to save money on meals, mostly so I can spend it at the fair.
  6. Eat lamb.
  7. Eat truffle budd's from Taste Budd's.
  8. Purchase a drop spindle
  9. And some fiber to go with it.
  10. Don't buy any yarn.
  11. Visit this tea room and add to my tea stash.

"How'd you do?" you ask.

  1. The drive was lovely on Sunday, I almost drove myself off the road from gawking.  The ride from Rhinebeck to Millerton and then from Millerton up to the Mass. Pike was breathtaking.  I actually had to turn the book off for a while.  Too distracted.  The downside of being the driver.
  2. Accomplished.
  3. Accomplished with flare.
  4. Ditto!  And, it didn't feel like the first time.  Funny, that.
  5. Done.
  6. Yummy kabob with peppers and onions and a salad.
  7. I saved this one for Sunday and my ride home.  AND I got a hot chocolate there as well.  The best hot chocolate ever.
  8. Did I say purchase A drop spindle?  Okay, well I guess I accomplished this by 200%.  The photo above may be a bit misleading.  Three of the spindles pictured are Hatchtown drop spindles that arrived in my mailbox on Friday just as I was leaving.  They were a trade for a flute.  Awesome!  The two in the center back are Bosworth Spindles that I purchased.  I love them all.
  9. See, look!  There is yummy blue fiber too!  On the right is a wool/mohair blend from Fantom Fiber.  I ran to that booth after I was in the Bosworth booth and pretty much learned to spin on it.  Sheila Bosworth had me spinning in seconds (I did have a preliminary lesson the evening before-Margene did the honors-so I think sleeping on it helped) and the fiber was so easy to spin I had to take some home.  That was after the purchase on the left of a wool/mohair blend from Foxhill Farm.  To tell the truth, I am a little afraid to spin them myself.  They are just too pretty to be ruined by my beginner hands.
  10. I didn't buy any yarn.  I DIDN'T BUY ANY YARN!!!!!!  It was close a few times, but I thought of the yarn store that I frequently shop at in my home and walked away.  Save the yarn for next year.  But by then, I'll be spinning all of my own, right?  Heh.
  11. The tea room was better than I could have hoped for.  There is a room where you can have any tea prepared to sample.  Such fun!  I tried teas that I never would just order online and one of them, the Mao Cha Souchong was absolutely wonderful and smokey and $75.00 for two ounces of tea.  Did you get that?  $600 A POUND!!!!  Yeah, I didn't buy that.  Well, actually.......I got one of the $2 samples of that one.  Now I am just saving it for the perfect moment.  I hope it comes soon.

I did stock up on some teas. The one I cannot stop drinking is the Hot Cinnamon Spice. You should go and order some. And get a sample of one of the jasmine teas. Perfectly lovely.

I could wax poetic about the fun, laughs, knits (actually, could you all leave your hand knits at home next year? Cursed distracting!), fiber, food, friendships and the love, feeling the love. I imagine you have read it all over the place. I am proud that I came home almost within my limitations, but really with no guilt. Except that maybe I should have gotten more fiber to practice with. And more tea. Well, there is always the online order thing. Now-off to practice my spinning!

You forgot: #12. Order Peace Fleece in "blueberry borscht". :)

Hanging with you was one of the highlights of my weekend. PLEASE let's not wait so long to hang again. I miss you!!!!!

PS - So glad the tea room was everything you hoped it would be....

All those spindles are so gorgeous! I'm going to have to check out that tea room, Millerton is not to far away from me - go figure.

It was so nice to see you again, Teresa, even in all that hubbub! Wasn't it just wild?! Love your spindles (I think I have the light colored one in the middle photo above) and I just noticed that you are an ELIZABETH PETERS fan! Me, too. I've read everything she's written as EP or as Barbara Michaels. Especially love the Amelia Peabody series.

It was great to spend some time with you Terry! and thank you for sharing your tea! good luck with the spindling - this time next year (if you can wait that long) you will be wheel shopping at Rhinebeck!

What a great weekend you had! OH WAIT! I was there! :)
xo

So happy to see you again, Terry. ; )

It was so wonderful to hug you even if I had to kneel;-)
Spending the afternoon shopping, eating lamb with you, and even the little 'mishap' after was pure enjoyment. It was a dream come true to meet my long time blog buddy in person and now we can truly say we are 'real' friends. Miss you and I'm spinning with you in spirit.

I'm so glad I got to spend some time you you! Okay, now that you have the spindles I expect to start seeing you at spinning group!

Sounds fabulous! I cannot believe you didn't buy yarn. You have some willpower girl!

Hit and run, that's what we got. But you are local so I won't mourn badly.

You are spinning beautiful fiber. Use it all. You can get more gorgeous stuff. (Maybe wait for the cashmere/silk.)

I wish I had seen you spinning but I did hear all about it from mutual friends. And dinner Friday night was fun!

How much did you love those truffle budds? And only 50 cents!!! Wish those were closer. I totally missed the tea room and wish I hadn't --wanted to buy some tea for my hubby. :(

I had no idea you could visit Harney -- that is a on my list of things to do now. . . maybe in conjunction with a Rhinebeck trip next year. The whole thing sounds heavenly.

I'm glad to hear you had a great time. I wish I had ran into you this year!

It was SO fun to meet you finally!! I am glad that the Tea Room was everything you had hoped it would be and more :-)

Ooohhh....your Hatchtowns ARE pretty!
