Time was, when this knitter came across a blog post that was all about that knitter's spinning I would scan and click. Moving right along. Nothing of interest for me there. So, as a convenience to those knitters that couldn't give a crap about spinning, I'll try to start the posts that are all about my spinning with a warning or disclaimer. That way nobody has to waste their time searching for the knitting. In this post there is no knitting. If we could have just one decent day to take a photo, there would be knitting, but as it is, I took this crappy picture of my crappy first skein of yarn. And I use that term very loosely. But for some reason I can't stop looking at it, and touching it, smelling it, walking around cradling it in my arms like a new baby, and showing it to my family-"Look! I made yarn!". I think you can imagine that the response to that has diminished over time. (Luckily I have a daughter returning from Australia soon-she will be a new victim! Would it be too much to take it to the airport with me when we pick her up?) And, while I promise there will be more knitting, at least for a short time there will be more spinning. It remains to be seen if I really want to do this, but the trying out time is frustrating as hell a challenge that I am willing to give some time.

Hey, I'm sure she's going to ask what you've been doing, right? This way you'll be prepared.:) Sweet skeinlette!

It's gorgeous Teresa! You'll have a wheel before you know it? ;-)

Very nice! At least your first stuff looks like yarn, wish I could say the same :-)

Hey it's a beginning...and a pretty pretty color!

This is a brilliant skein for your first try. Well done, and keep it up. I've been spinning for ... well, many, many years, and I still thoroughly enjoy myself.

That's fabulous first yarn ! Really ! You have a natural talent. Knit it into a little swatch and see how beautiful it looks knit up.
Clever spinner !

isn't it cool? that color is beautiful.

Wonderful skein! And I know very well that feeling of wanting to show it to everyone you know. Wait until you knit with it, then you'll be really excited!

A lovely first skien indeed! You should be proud, and you should knit a little something with it.

It's just lovely! It looks much nicer than my first yarn!

Looks darn good for first yarn - much better than anything I produced the first several attempts. The color is great, too.

Look at you go! The yarn is very nice. No yarn you spin will ever be (or will you want it to be) like a ball of Rowan or Debbie Bliss. Your yarn looks fabulous for knitting anything!

It's beautiful! I don't even spin, and I've got my eye on you. ; )

That's spindle-plied? I'd say that's quite good, actually.
Posted by: Beth S. | November 16, 2006 at 12:47 PM
I am somehow missing the mediocrity here. It's a beautiful color and it's YARN. I sure as hell can't do that. yet.

Ah, another one bites the dust! Abandon hope...and plan space for the fiber stash. Heh.
If you're making that kind of yarn and are still in the frustration phase, you're going to be just fine.
Airports are great places for spindling. Just saying.

I want to learn to spin but don't know anyone who can teach me. I got a small kit and tried to teach myself to use a drop spindle. No luck so far.

Whoo hoo!! You DID it!

What's bad about that skein? Nothing! That yarn is beautiful. Love the colors. Nice work!
Posted by: Kristi | November 17, 2006 at 12:21 AM
That's a wonderful first skein! Beautiful! And I think given your level of enthusiasm about it you'll stick with spinning for a while.
Any news about that yarn store over by you? Is it open yet?

Emma hit it. You love to swatch -- here's your chance. You could end up with a blankie for a baby (or you) with your swatch squares of spindle-spun! Soo, so pretty, Teresa. Well done. You're so much the perfectionist -- me? Meh, just spin the stuff. Heh. Someday I'd like to (maybe) become the perfectionist.

I love the colour! And girl: you're a natural. Wanna borrow a wheel?
Posted by: julia fc | November 17, 2006 at 11:42 AM
Your spinning looks fabulous (and I'd be wary about "warning" people about spinning - I think there might be a lot more interested parties than you think there are).
Posted by: Cassie | November 17, 2006 at 03:34 PM
Beautiful skeinlet. Great job! First skeins are SO exciting. Go borrow a wheel and you'll see how much easier it is to spindle after.

That's good looking yarn. Love the color, looks pretty even and balanced to me. Nice work.

That's quite lovely. The only thing missing is the parts you were warning us about.
Take it to the airport. Yes.

Your spinning is beautiful, Teresa. Thank you for your comment on my blog. Good to hear from you. :)

If that's crappy yarn there's no hope for the rest of us. It's beautiful!

Looks great!
