Every time I begin a post I sit here, staring at the blank screen wondering just how to get started, how to place the photos, just what to flippin' say. Usually I get started and everything is good. Sometimes I just quit for the moment. You?
The story of this felted bag starts years ago. You know, one of those projects that you know you want for yourself, but can't decide on colors or whatever, so it never happens. Last year I made a Market Squares Bag for my pal in one of those swap things and loved it. I finally got the inspiration for my bag in the comments to that post. Chris mentioned that a yarn customer was making one in colors to match her Vera Bradley bag. Eureka! It probably won't surprise anyone that visits here once in a while that Nantucket Navy is my pattern. Actually, if it weren't for that colorway I probably wouldn't do VB at all. I'm really hard on those bags. I just couldn't stop thinking about getting the blues together to make the bag. So, the other thing you might wonder is why I would have my finished object in a small pic. I never do that. Well, I loved the bag and absolutely hated the handles! They are I-cord handles and even though they are felted when the bag had more than about four ounces in it those handles pulled and stretched and sagged, making it only just usable. They really bothered me. I mentioned this to Marci at Elegant Ewe and she steered me to Homestead Heirlooms (sorry, site appears to be down). They have a humongous variety of leather goods, lots of handle styles, colors and many ways to attach them to whatever you want. I had thought I wanted grommets, but was convinced to get the sew on handles. So this is the real finished object:

- Pattern: Market Squares Bag, Knitters Magazine, Summer 2001
- Yarn: Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride Worsted
- Needles: size 8?
- Started and Finished in February, 2007
When I was knitting it, I had started out using the white and thought it broke up the blue too much, so I was going to put it in later in the sequence. When I did, I got half way through that row of squares and I swear that a little voice whispered in my ear just in time that white wool doesn't usually felt very well. So I took it out and finshed with the blues. You can see in the photos that the white didn't felt very well. Only the stitch definition didn't felt away, but it didn't get puffy-like where it didn't felt as well. The bag is great.
