So I had a post written up about drop spinning and my progress and my thoughts on the progress all leading up to my latest skein of yarn. Then I hit something and *poof*! Gone. I'll probably re-write it someday soon, but for now here is the yarn.
I was going for a two-ply lace to fingering weight yarn witih a pretty good twist in the ply so I spun two seperate copps, each one ounce being very careful to have as much consistency as I could in the singles. I spun a lot of twist into the singles. When plying I started out putting a lot of twist into the plying and then for some reason started to second guess myself. Because the first copp of singles was at least three weeks sitting, I knew that checking for balance wouldn't be reliable. Part way through the plying I started putting a little less twist into the yarn. I'm pretty sure that was my mistake. My skein, after setting the twist, is not balanced, it twists back on itself in an "S" twist and sections of it are curly, also in "S" twist. "Photos?" you ask. Why, of course!

I think I might first try to put it all back on a spindle, add twist into the curly sections. For now I am sewing handles on a bag as a distraction.
And now, for something completely different (from spinning that is): Have you tried Dark Chocolate Covered Altoids? I love them, the cinnamon especially! Problem is, I eat so many at a time that I end up on the floor, a cinnamony, sweaty mess. The website is clever, you can even leave a message similar to those snowflake messages that are around at Christmas time. We should leave a ton of knitting and spinning messages on there! That would be so fun, but my blog isn't the place to spread a message. If you think it would be fun pass the word. We can show our knitting numbers here! I'll be leaving one for someone special.
Last, thanks to everyone that piped in on my last post. I love my sweater and love the support I get from blog readers. I certainly don't get that in my "real life".
You could try soaking the skein and then whacking the crap out of it against a wall. Sometimes that helps to even out the twist.

Run it through the spindle (or your wheel) and tighten up the twist. I've done it on both. You can take out and put in more twist by plying again. It looks good for the most part. It's all practice until your intution kicks in.

I am having a passionate love affair with the chocolate dipped peppermint Altoids. Love them so very much. I did overdo it last night though. Ugh.

I think it's definitely worth it to run it back through and add a little more plying twist. The other part looks so good!
See you tonight?
