Cool! That's definitely a sphinx moth of some sort, and I've sent your photo to our invertebrate zoologist - he'll know what it is (but probably not till tomorrow).

The dragonflies are clearly out in force - yay! If I remember my camera sometime when I'm out catching them, I'll post some photos on my blog.

Summer! Love it!

Hate bugs. Hate hate hate. Moths have me retreating in fear. The screened porch was not elective.

I'm getting quite a chuckle out of your descriptions and your amusement at Meg's moth meeting. I'm not afraid of bugs but some just piss me off.

It's the little crawly things that bother me...the moth is totally cool. I have never seen anything but plain old miller moths and I'd love to see something as exciting as your Stealth.

Manise

I love moths and dragonflies! And most insects. Even praying mantises- though when large they kind of creep me out. I should have thought about that before ordering and receiving 2 mantid egg cases in the mail that are due to hatch out anywhere from 2-8 weeks. We're on week 2- egg cases sutured to a twig and a host of vestigial winged fruit flies inside the same habitat awaiting to become dinner for the new hatchlings (nymphs).

Come to think about it, I've yet to see a dragonfly this year.
