Only you probably won't read it until Thanksgiving which will be sort of a bonus because I will post a Thanksgiving post as well. I hope.
Not surprisingly my Thanksgiving decorations lean heavily toward the turkey and pumpkin theme. Throw in a pilgrim and indian and some fall leaves and you get the picture. I love stuffed pumpkins and have them around the house all through the fall. Among the things I look forward to the most is pumpkin pie. I love it. Leave it on the counter with a fork at breakfast and by lunch I've devoured it. Yummy.
I have several turkeys, some cute and some kind of strange, some are candles. My mom always went all out in the decorating department and I have vivid memories of the paper accordian turkey. I loved that thing, to this day I love taking it out of the envelope and carefully opening the folded tissue, hearing the crinkling of the paper as it stretches and yawns after its year long nap. When we were kids there were little metal clips that held the pieces together, now they have it all tricked out with tabs in the card stock body and feathers. Our turkey lasted for years, mom always folding it up tight and keeping it in the envelope between thin cardboard. I have gone through a few in my adult years, a fact that disappoints me a little.
Growing up, we had a small army of these in all sizes and if memory serves we had pilgrims and indians that unfolded as well. With the exception of the turkey I never see those anymore.
Now look what I found the other day, a YouTube video that is totally up my alley.
With all of this talk of Thanksgiving loves I got hungry for pumpkin pie while writing this post and got up to get myself a piece......
One hundred twenty-seven. Or day TWENTY-FIVE! Enjoy your pumpkin pie!
I had completely forgotten about those paper Thanksgiving decorations. I know we had a couple of different sized turkeys and there was a pumpkin, too, and I'm thinking there might have been pilgrims and Indians as well. Your description of the sound of the paper unfolding is perfect - I can hear it in my head!
And now I want one for my decorations but I think the cat would have his way with it.

Happy Thanksgiving! Love the turkey stop-motion clip.
Enjoy your turkey and pie. Even though ours was a month ago you've made me crave pumpkin pie again something fierce ~ off to go bake... :)
