From Vicki.
Do I even have five things to say? Maybe not. I liked Vicki's things. She even had photos! I can check my camera, maybe I took a photo. Or maybe five.
- Typepad reached their chubby fingers into my checking account so it appears I am a blogger for another year. I wasn't surprised by this, I almost took steps to avoid or postpone that payment, but then I didn't. So here I post.
- I'm watching Castle via OnDemand. I really like Richard Castle, think his little boy persona is fun. It makes me really hope that Nathan Fillion is not a douche bag. It sometimes happens, you know, you think the guy is as cool as the character and then you see him in an interview and realize that he regularly trades his 22 year old girlfriends for 17 year old supermodels, is photographed on yachts smoking cigarettes, drinking champagne, surrounded by scantily clad, barely legal actress hopefuls, and looking like he could use a gym membership. Oh wait. That's Leonardo DiCaprio. (Yeah, he grosses me out.) (But I'll still watch him in a movie.)
- Dust. There is so much dust. It can't be helped, we are having a new floor put down in our kitchen and because it would be the third or fourth floor we couldn't just put a sub-floor down and plop it on top of the others. Knowing that at least one floor and sub-floor were being pulled up AND that I am a fanatic about not breathing in that dust or having to clean the dust seep from all over the house the kitchen has been tarped and taped off. Not the way I would have done it though, so I'm sitting in the adjoing room looking at a layer of fine dust. (I do worry about the contractor, a good friend of ours, who does not wear a mask while working. You know that silt-like dust that you can't really see while it is in the air, but must line your lungs like the surface of everything it settles on. Eww.)
- "It will be worth it. It will be worth it." My new mantra. I'm taking deep, hopefully dust free breaths during the interruption of routine and hoping it goes quickly and more quickly.
- This is the most boring list of five things ever! I'm falling asleep just typing it, which is probably a good thing.
Speaking of sleeping, I've been trying to start that earlier and then end it earlier. I usually get my 7-8 hours, but they start at, hmmmm.... about 2:30-3:00. A.M. And then they end around 9:30ish, sometimes a little later. The trend has been a little later each night. I'm not kidding when I admit that I was certain I was going to be entirely nocturnal, sleeping with the owls and raccoons.
I do sleep pretty well. I get into bed, fall asleep quickly, sleep deeply, and after about 6 hours I wake up, still tired. I always set an alarm for 7 hours of sleep, but I always wake up before it goes off and I just lay there wishing I would sleep. When the alarm goes off I hit the snooze and fall immediately back to sleep. It is ridiculous! Then there is a snooze button fest in my bedroom. I probably hit that button four or five times. There were events last weekend that didn't so much require me to be up early, but because I wanted to be in on the family fun I forced myself out of bed after about 4-5 hours sleep. I was hoping that would make me tired earlier and I could turn this into a new sleep schedule, but I was so tired during the day that I took a little cat nap on the second day and ended up in bed at 1:30. But wait! That is PROGRESS!!! I mean, still late, but PROGRESS!!!
Every morning this week I have been up before 7:45 and last night I actually went to bed at 12:30!!! And by that I mean 12:30 is when I turned off the kindle and the lights and went right to sleep. In addition to getting up earlier I've added two more behavior modifications in the effort to get on a sleep schedule with the rest of society. I stop drinking tea earlier in the day and after being injured and sitting around all winter I've started walking again with the hope that I feel fatigue at a normal hour. So I've not been setting my alarm for the 7ish hours, but for 7:15 regardless of bedtime and getting up about at or before 7:45. This morning I woke up before the alarm and spent an hour wishing I was sleeping and then falling asleep when the alarm went off. It's like the alarm is a sleep trigger for me. Maybe I should set it for 11:00 at night! It'd be like I've been hypnotised to the alarm, it goes off and THUNK! Head hits pillow. If only that would work, because here I sit at 10:30, not tired and planning a 7:00 wake up for tomorrow. It is necessary for me to have my breakfast out of the way because #3 is happening again at about 7:30 instead of whenever our friend shows up later in the day. To that end I've adopted another behavior mod: I get all my breakfast ingredients ready to hit the pan. The pan is on the stove right now accompanied by all the utensils and the coconut oil is on the counter next to it. The sweet potato is grated, the shallot sliced and if it would work, I'd crack the egg in preparation. I also have a water heater that will have my water at the perfect temperature for my tea upon my arrival in the kitchen. It is a pychological trick, I know, but somehow knowing everything is ready and waiting makes it easier to drag myself out from under the covers.
Heh, pretty soon I'll have moved my bedtime back to mid-afternoon and wake up in time for The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
Sixteen. So number 5 could have been all of the Five for Friday. I'm hitting 'publish' just in time, another few minutes and I'd have to make this Six on Saturday. And not a photo to be seen. Bummer. No pretty for your eyes, just my ramblings.
