As I sit down to compose this post I haven't any real intention of making a list and linking to ten different mittens in my ravelry queue. That is not to say I won't link to something, it is just the thought of linking right now is making me tired and I haven't even started. And won't our lists all look alike? I mean, if you are making a list. Like, you don't even know how long it took me to link to these mittens that I've been thinking about A LOT lately.
Instead, I'm starting with a pair of mittens that I knitted a while ago and never marked finished on ravelry and never posted here. My intention was to take better photos, but.......yeah.
Now that I can see the photos up close I remember why I wanted to retake them. Couldn't figure that out on my laptop, it won't let me view the photos. Whomp.whomp.

You know, I didn't even realize until I looked that my ravelry queue includes more than six pages of mittens alone. There are some winners there. Cabled Mittens like this one and maybe this one are among my favorites. Oh, and this one.
If you clicked over to the ravelry page for the Zebra Mittens you may have noticed that I strayed from the pattern a little bit. I made these for my favorite youngest daughter, Erin and she, after painstakingly pouring over pages and pages (not just my ravelry queue which has so many mittens, like this awesome pair that has words to one of our favorite poems on them) of mittens she chose these. Being Erin, she didn't want the polka dots to be different colors, just all black and white. Yawn!
Well, she has this thing for elephants and purple is her favorite color, so I decided to change them up a little and make the Zebra Mittens more like Purple Safari Mittens. Sometimes I'm attracted to a mitten only because of the color it is knitted in. I hoped she would feel the same about the purple. And the elephants.
So, I went the exact opposite of plain and I thought I had photos of the process, but I may have deleted them. I did take pretty good notes of the braids and charts that I knitted into that cuff and if you are interested you can read all about it on the ravelry page (link above: Purple Safari Mittens). Just looking at them makes me want to cast on for these. Or these or these.
You are wondering, especially if you are a girl, but mostly if you have a daughter, if she liked them. I mean, not plain...... Not black and white......
SHE LOVES THEM! She even tweeted about them when she pulled them out to wear on the first cold day here. Yay! They are a hit!
This mitten would be a total hit with someone else in my family. I should make them. Or not. Depends on my mood. My mood has me thinking of these because they will go pretty quickly and make great gifts for people who deserve something nice, but aren't really on the gift list.
Well, sorry I didn't do the list. Sorrier that all of you did do it, my ravelry friends' activity page is blow-ing UP with new mitten patterns. Now my queue is getting even longer with mittens like these (blue, great photography) and these (nice cables).
2012. Thirty-three. Maybe I'll do next week's Ten On Tuesday! Thanks, Carole for keeping it going!
